Deji Adeyanju, a popular human right activist and lawyer has pledged to advocate for a increase in the salaries of Supreme Court Justices, emphasizing the importance of ensuring fair compensation for members of the judiciary.
Adeyanju, who recently joined the legal profession after being called to the bar, expressed his commitment to using legal means to push for a monthly salary of N15 million for Supreme Court Justices.
In a statement titled “My Commitment to Nigerians as I Join The Largest Bar in Africa,” Adeyanju highlighted the disparity between the salaries of judicial officers and other government officials, describing it as “shameful.” He pointed out that while governors, lawmakers, and their aides earn substantial amounts during their term, Supreme Court Justices receive comparatively low salaries, making them vulnerable to corruption.
“A judiciary where a Supreme Court Justice earns barely N3,000,000 (Three Million Naira) per month is a judiciary vulnerable to corruption,” Adeyanju stated. He stated his intention to use legal mechanisms to advocate for a salary increase, ensuring that no Supreme Court Justice earns less than N15 million monthly.
Adeyanju pledged to utilize his knowledge of the law to combat corruption and challenge security agencies to conduct thorough investigations into corruption allegations. He vowed to dedicate his time, resources, and legal expertise to the fight against corruption, urging relevant authorities to investigate allegations and prosecute cases where necessary.
Adeyanju expressed his commitment to seeking clarification on constitutional issues that impact the nation and its citizens. He affirmed his loyalty to the Constitution and the Nigerian people, pledging to use his legal license for the benefit of all Nigerians.
