Harry Maguire has accepted an apology from the Ghanaian Member of Parliament who previously ridiculed him.
Maguire has often faced significant criticism for his performances after becoming the world’s most expensive defender upon moving to United back in the summer of 2019.
Though such disapproval has come from all corners of the globe on various platforms, he would have been surprised to hear his name tarnished in Ghanaian parliament last year.
In December 2022, MP Isaac Adongo claimed that Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was the ‘economic Maguire’ due to the Bawumia’s New Patriotic Party budget mismanagement. But in parliament on Tuesday, Adongo walked back on his disparagement of Maguire and offered forth an apology to the United centre-back.
“You remember that last year I was very quick to call my big brother, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Harry Maguire. Mr Speaker, I now apologise to Harry Maguire,” Adongo said.
“Today, Maguire has turned the corner and is a transformational footballer. Maguire is now scoring goals for Manchester United. Mr Speaker, Harry Maguire is now a key player for Manchester United.”
The 30-year-old took to X (formerly Twitter) to accept the apology and add ‘see you at Old Trafford soon’.
