Nigeria Defeated by Austria at IHF Women’s Under-18 World Championship.
Nigeria’s Women’s Under-18 Handball team suffered a heavy defeat against Austria, losing 33-14 in a classification match at the IHF Women’s Under-18 Handball World Championship. The match, part of the President’s Cup, took place on Tuesday in Chuzhou, China.
The Nigerian side, coached by Shittu Adewunmi Agboola, struggled to find their footing throughout the game. In the first half, Nigeria managed only 8 goals while their Austrian opponents netted 17, reflecting their inability to capitalise on scoring opportunities.
The second half saw no improvement for the Nigerian team, as numerous turnovers led to a series of fast-break goals by Austria. This culminated in a final scoreline of 33-14 in favour of Austria. Despite taking 47 shots during the match, Nigeria’s efficiency in front of the goal was disappointing, with only a 30% conversion rate.
Nigeria will now face Chinese Taipei in a placement match scheduled for Thursday at 2:00 AM WAT, where they will aim to end the tournament on a more positive note.
