Haaland Reaches 100 Premier League Goal Contributions In Record Time.
Erling Haaland has added another milestone to his already impressive career, reaching 100 Premier League goal contributions in record time during Manchester City’s 2-2 draw with Brighton on Saturday.
The Norwegian striker, who scored from the penalty spot in the match, achieved this feat in just 94 games, surpassing the previous record held by Alan Shearer, who took 100 matches to reach the same landmark.
Record-Breaking Feat
Haaland, who joined City from Borussia Dortmund for £51.2 million in June 2022, becomes only the second player alongside Shearer to reach 100 goal contributions in just his third Premier League season.
Shearer’s early career in the old First Division does not count towards the record, making Haaland’s achievement even more remarkable. Other Premier League greats such as Sergio Agüero, Thierry Henry, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Les Ferdinand, and Matt Le Tissier all needed four seasons to reach the milestone. Meanwhile, Eric Cantona, Mohamed Salah, and Andy Cole took five seasons, while Harry Kane reached it in his sixth campaign.
Haaland’s Goal-Scoring Dominance
Haaland’s first 100 goal contributions consist of 84 goals and 16 assists, highlighting his primary role as a prolific finisher. Only Kane had fewer assists (13) before hitting the milestone. At the other end of the spectrum, Cantona registered 42 assists, while Southampton legend Le Tissier managed 38.
Although Haaland has been the Premier League’s top scorer in his first two seasons, his goalscoring rate has dipped slightly this campaign. With 20 goals in 27 league matches, he currently trails Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah by seven goals. His goal involvement rate has also slowed, averaging one every 103 minutes this season, compared to every 63 minutes in his first campaign and every 80 minutes last season.
Dominating Rival Teams
Haaland has been particularly effective against Manchester United, scoring six goals and providing three assists in five appearances against the Red Devils. His most productive fixture has been against West Ham, netting nine goals in six games. He has also excelled against Wolves (eight in five games), Crystal Palace (six in four), and both Fulham and Brighton (six in five each).
Closing in on 100 Premier League Goals
With his latest achievement, Haaland now has his sights set on reaching 100 Premier League goals. Shearer still holds the record, having reached the century mark in 124 appearances for Blackburn Rovers.
Currently, Haaland stands at 84 goals, needing just 16 more in his next 30 matches to break Shearer’s record and continue cementing his place among the Premier League’s all-time greats.
