Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu embarked on a trip to China on Tuesday, aiming to finalize key agreements with the China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) for the Blue and Red Line rail services.
The primary objective of the visit is to strengthen trade and investment ties with the CCECC, a renowned Chinese construction giant involved in major infrastructure projects globally. Governor Sanwo-Olu is set to engage in discussions with top officials of the company and inspect ongoing projects around Beijing.
During his stay in China, the Governor will meticulously assess the progress of the Signaling System, including Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC), and Metro projects implemented by CCECC in Beijing. These projects hold paramount importance in the realization of a modern and efficient multimodal transportation system for Lagos.
Later in the week, Governor Sanwo-Olu is scheduled to visit the China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation headquarters and CRRC Lvshun base in Dalian. An important aspect of the trip involves high-level meetings with the Head of China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation, CRRC Dalian, to discuss technical aspects related to the Red Line Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs) and Blue Line Electric Multiple Units (EMUs).
Accompanying the Governor on thisl mission are key officials, including the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Seun Osiyemi; Chairman, House Committee on Transportation, Hon. Temitope Adewale; Chairman, House Committee on Environment parastatals, Hon. Rasheed Shabi; Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo; and Director, Rail Transport, Mr. Olasunkanmi Okusaga, among others.
The Governor and his entourage are expected to return to Lagos next week, armed agreements that hope to play a crucial role in shaping the future of Lagos State’s transportation infrastructure.
