Governor Makinde Highlights Economic Stability And Unity In Oyo State.
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to economic stability, stating that the state benefits from a monthly injection of approximately N24 billion in salaries to state and local government workers.
Speaking at his Ikolaba residence in Ibadan on Sunday, following the Eid-el-Fitri prayers at the Agodi Eid Ground, the governor noted that his government’s focus on expanding the economy has attracted increased private sector investment. He added that businesses now feel more confident about investing in the state.
The gathering included prominent figures such as the Deputy Governor, Barr. Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, and Senator Oloye Sharafadeen Alli, among others. The governor used the opportunity to extend Eid Mubarak greetings to the Muslim community and commend their prayers, patriotism, and support for his administration.
Makinde emphasised that Oyo State is now recognised for its peace and unity, which have fostered economic development and harmonious coexistence among residents. He urged the people to maintain this peaceful environment, as all aspirations for progress are tied to stability.
Reflecting on the past, the governor recalled how political and social divisions previously marred the state, preventing unity. He praised the transformation that has taken place, enabling leaders from various political backgrounds to come together in a show of solidarity.
The governor also highlighted the state’s growing private sector investments, citing the development of a Farmers’ Wholesale Market at Ijaiye Farm Settlement, where 3,000 hectares of land have been allocated for the project.
Acknowledging the economic challenges faced by Nigerians, Makinde encouraged political officeholders to prioritise policies that improve livelihoods. “Tough times don’t last, only tough people do,” he remarked, reassuring residents of continued efforts to enhance economic stability.
In a message delivered on behalf of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, Senator Rashidi Ladoja urged the people of Oyo State to remain patient and hopeful despite challenges. Similarly, the Deputy Governor, Barr. Lawal, called on the Muslim community to uphold values of empathy, love, and kindness, as taught by the Holy Quran.
Special prayers were also offered for the success of Governor Makinde’s administration, with appreciation expressed for his dedication to workers’ welfare and the state’s development.
With sustained unity and economic progress, Oyo State continues to set a precedent for growth and stability in Nigeria.
