Governor Fubara Lauded For Stellar Achievements Amid Rivers State Crisis.
A coalition of opposition lawmakers has showered praise on Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara as he marks his second year in office, hailing his remarkable achievements despite navigating a turbulent political crisis. In a statement issued by the group’s spokesperson, Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, the lawmakers described Fubara’s tenure as a testament to resilience, capacity, and unwavering focus in the face of persistent attempts to destabilise his administration.
“Governor Fubara has achieved what many of his counterparts in peaceful states have not,” Ugochinyere declared. “Despite being suspended, the infrastructure development initiated under his watch remains substantial.”
The coalition highlighted a string of projects spearheaded by Fubara’s administration, including the reconstruction of general hospitals, the launch of agricultural programmes, and significant advancements in road and education infrastructure. Notably, the rebuilding of the State Assembly complex was cited as a key accomplishment, with many projects fully mobilised before the political crisis intensified.
The lawmakers also took aim at governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing them of failing to rally behind Fubara during a critical period. However, they expressed confidence in his imminent return to full duties, crediting the intervention of President Bola Tinubu.
“We congratulate Governor Siminalayi Fubara on his second anniversary in office. His achievements are unmatchable, despite the crisis disrupting his administration,” the statement read. Since assuming office in May 2023, Fubara has driven major infrastructure projects, including the Port Harcourt Ring Road, Omoku and Kalabari Super Highway, and the N80.886 billion Elele-Omoku road, spanning Ikwerre, Emohua, and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Areas.
A landmark achievement is the completion of the Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo Unity Road, a legacy project initiated under former Governor Peter Odili. The lawmakers praised Fubara’s commitment to seeing through long-standing infrastructure initiatives, calling it a symbol of his dedication to Rivers State’s development.
On the social front, the administration has introduced sweeping reforms in the civil service, clearing promotion backlogs and pensions while preparing to recruit 10,000 new workers. Additionally, Fubara’s government has bolstered small businesses through a N4 billion disbursement via the Rivers State Micro Finance Agency, in partnership with the Bank of Industry. Beneficiaries have received loans ranging from N400,000 to N10 million, fostering economic growth across the state.
The coalition’s commendation comes amid other positive developments in Rivers State, including a recent police operation that neutralised a notorious kidnapper and murderer, and the Nigerian Navy’s provision of free medical treatment to 5,000 residents. However, challenges persist, with protests erupting over the alleged kidnapping of a 12-year-old in the state.
As Governor Fubara presses forward, the opposition lawmakers remain optimistic that his leadership will continue to deliver transformative progress for Rivers State, cementing his legacy as a governor who thrives under pressure.
