Governor Fubara Appeals For Peace Amid Rivers State Political Tensions.

Rivers State, Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara has called for calm and unity as the state grapples with a challenging chapter in its political history. The Governor’s statement, released earlier today, comes amid an ongoing impasse with members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, which he claims has hindered efforts to maintain peace and progress.

Governor Fubara, who has led the oil-rich state since taking office, emphasised that his administration has remained steadfast in its commitment to the constitutional oath and the welfare of Rivers people. “Since assuming office as your Governor, all my actions and decisions have been guided by my constitutional oath of office and a great sense of duty,” he said. He highlighted key priorities, including the protection of lives and property, and the continued development of the state, even in the face of political turbulence.

The Governor pointed to his administration’s swift response to a peace initiative brokered by President Bola Tinubu, noting that agreed terms were implemented in good faith. This included welcoming back commissioners who had previously resigned voluntarily. Additionally, following the receipt of a certified true copy of a Supreme Court judgement, the state acted promptly to restore normalcy. “These steps were taken not for personal gains but to foster peace, unity and stability in our dear State,” Fubara stressed.

However, he expressed frustration at what he described as repeated obstruction by the Rivers State House of Assembly, which he accused of thwarting genuine efforts towards reconciliation and progress. Despite these challenges, the Governor reassured residents that governance has not faltered. “Salaries have been paid, and great projects were being executed to move the State forward,” he said, adding, “Above all, Rivers State is safe, secure and peaceful under our watch.”

In a rallying call to the state’s citizens, Governor Fubara urged resilience and patience. “At this critical time, I urge all Rivers people to remain peaceful and law-abiding,” he said. He pledged to work with relevant institutions to safeguard democracy and ensure the state’s continued prosperity.

The Governor’s address has been met with mixed reactions. Supporters have praised his calm leadership and focus on stability, while critics argue that deeper dialogue is needed to resolve the underlying political tensions. For now, all eyes remain on Rivers State as its people navigate this delicate moment with the resilience Fubara so proudly highlighted.

“God bless Rivers State. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he concluded, striking a note of hope and unity in uncertain times.
