Governor Adeleke Launches Second Phase Of Osogbo-Kwara Road And Ila Orangun Dualisation Projects.

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has officially launched the second phase of the Osogbo-Ikirun-Ila Odo-Kwara State boundary road dualisation, alongside the groundbreaking ceremony for the Ila Orangun township dual carriageway. The events, held on Monday, 21 July 2025, mark a significant step in the governor’s ambitious infrastructure development agenda, aimed at transforming Osun’s road network and boosting economic connectivity. Speaking at the ceremony in Ila Orangun, Adeleke reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to delivering on promises made to the people of Osun, despite political distractions and economic challenges.

The Osogbo-Ikirun-Ila Odo-Kwara boundary road, spanning over 20 kilometres, is a critical artery connecting Osun to northern Nigeria. Initially started by a previous administration in 2013 but later abandoned, the project was revived by Adeleke, who allocated ₦500 million to the contractor within his first 100 days in office to ensure its completion. The second phase, flagged off this week, builds on the 10.5-kilometre stretch completed in 2023, which has already eased travel and bolstered trade. The governor highlighted the road’s importance in enhancing economic activities, noting its role in linking Osun to neighbouring states and facilitating smoother movement for motorists and traders.

In Ila Orangun, the dualisation of the township road marks the area’s first dual carriageway, a milestone Adeleke described as a testament to his administration’s focus on equitable development across Osun’s local government areas. The project is expected to improve traffic flow, enhance safety, and stimulate local commerce in Ila Orangun, Ifelodun, and Odo Otin. Addressing a large crowd at the flag-off, Adeleke said, “Our pact with the people of Osun is unbreakable. These projects are proof of our commitment to bringing development to every corner of the state.” He also revealed that his administration has completed over 175 kilometres of road reconstruction and rehabilitation, with additional dualisation and flyover projects, including those in Ilesa and Ile-Ife, nearing completion.

Adeleke used the occasion to counter recent criticisms from political opponents, describing their claims as “misrepresentations” that only strengthen his resolve to deliver good governance. He cited Osun’s high ranking in fiscal transparency—joint fifth in the first quarter of 2025—and significant debt reduction as evidence of his administration’s achievements. The governor assured residents that ongoing projects, including the Iwo-Osogbo road, are on track for completion within his tenure, with contractors fully mobilised to meet deadlines.

The flag-off ceremonies were met with enthusiastic support from local communities, who praised Adeleke’s focus on infrastructure and grassroots development. Traditional leaders, community elders, and residents expressed optimism that the projects would enhance living standards and open new economic opportunities. As Osun continues to witness rapid infrastructural transformation, Adeleke’s administration remains steadfast in its mission to deliver a modern, connected, and prosperous state for all its citizens.
