Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has approved the reconstruction of a number of bridges and river crossings for the use of the people.
This is in a bid to make movement in the state easier for residents.
The bridges include Oke-Onitea junction, Osogbo, river crossing, Shasha-UNIOSUN road, Osogbo and a bridge along Abass road, Ede among others.
The state government said the dilapidated nature of the river crossings and bridges has made life difficult for motorists and other residents who ply them since they went into a state of disrepair.
In most of the bridges, vehicles could no longer move from one end to the other end while some had practically become death traps of some sort.
In a reaction, the Director of Highways at the Ministry of Works and Transport, Basiru Bello said the Governor’s intervention is a response to the demands of the people.
“Immediately reports got to the governor concerning the bad condition of the bridges, he immediately gave directives to the Ministry of Works to start fixing them.
“The Governor has shown passion and the zeal to continue to put smiles on the faces of the masses who voted him into office, hence the approval given to embark on the projects.
“I assure you that the Ministry of Works and Transport will do a thorough supervision of the projects,” Bello assured.
He also appealed to the residents of the areas affected to cooperate with officials of the Ministry as the work continues.
