Gabriel Jesus Shines As Arsenal Thrash Crystal Palace.
Gabriel Jesus delivered a masterclass performance as Arsenal stormed to a 5-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, moving to within three points of Premier League leaders Liverpool.
The Brazilian striker, who netted a hat-trick against Palace in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals midweek, added two more to his tally, taking his goal count against the Eagles to five in just seven days.
Arsenal started strongly, opening the scoring in the sixth minute when Bukayo Saka’s deflected cross fell to Jesus, who struck powerfully past Dean Henderson at the near post. Palace responded quickly, equalising through Ismaila Sarr’s exquisite curled effort from the edge of the box.
However, Arsenal regained the lead just three minutes later. A poorly cleared corner allowed Thomas Partey to set up Jesus, whose curling shot into the top corner showcased his clinical finishing.
Jesus nearly secured a second hat-trick in as many matches, but his header struck the post. Fortunately for Arsenal, Kai Havertz was on hand to convert the rebound for their third goal.
Crystal Palace began the second half with intent, but Arsenal’s defence held firm. Gabriel Martinelli extended the Gunners’ lead, diverting Declan Rice’s shot into the net. Rice then capped off the performance with a stunning curling effort, sealing Arsenal’s emphatic victory.
The win was slightly marred by an injury to Bukayo Saka, who limped off in the first half. The extent of his injury remains unclear, and Arsenal fans will hope for a swift recovery.
The victory moves Arsenal three points behind Liverpool, although the Gunners have played two more matches. With such a dominant display, Arsenal remain firmly in the title race as the season approaches its halfway mark.
Speaking after the match, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta praised his side’s attacking intensity and composure. “Gabriel [Jesus] was fantastic, and the team showed great character. We need to keep pushing and ensure consistency,” he said.
Arsenal will look to build on this momentum as they prepare for their next fixture in their quest to challenge for the Premier League title.
