FRSC Urges Osun Motorists To Shun Route Violations And Unregistered Vehicles.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Osun Command, has issued a stern warning to motorists in the state to desist from route violations and the use of vehicles with unregistered number plates. The directive was announced by the state Sector Commander, Mr Leye Adegboyega, during a one-day sensitisation rally held across several motor parks in Osogbo on Monday.

The rally forms part of the activities marking the 8th Global Road Safety Week, an annual event aimed at promoting safer road practices worldwide. Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Adegboyega highlighted the alarming rise in the use of unregistered vehicles, particularly cars and motorcycles, across Osun State.

According to the Sector Commander, recent observations have revealed a significant number of vehicles operating with dealers’ number plates, many of which bear foreign numbers. These vehicles, he noted, are driven daily by motorists in violation of FRSC regulations. “Car dealers contribute greatly to this abnormality by either moving around with such unregistered vehicles affixed with dealers’ plates, or they sell vehicles with dealer number plates and stickers,” Adegboyega said.

He further pointed out that buyers often exacerbate the issue by using these vehicles for extended periods without proper registration, as required by law. This practice, Adegboyega stressed, undermines road safety efforts and contravenes the corps’ rules.

The sensitisation campaign is part of the FRSC’s broader initiative to educate drivers and vehicle owners on the importance of compliance with traffic regulations. The Osun Command’s efforts are aimed at curbing the proliferation of unregistered vehicles and ensuring that all motorists adhere to legal requirements.

Adegboyega called on car dealers and vehicle owners to take immediate steps to register their vehicles properly and urged motorists to avoid route violations to enhance safety on Osun’s roads. The FRSC has also vowed to intensify its enforcement measures to clamp down on offenders.

As the 8th Global Road Safety Week continues, the FRSC remains committed to fostering a culture of compliance and responsibility among road users, with the ultimate goal of reducing accidents and saving lives.
