As the Easter celebration approaches, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Akwa Ibom State has taken proactive measures to ensure road safety during the festive period.
With a focus on Easter traffic safety, the FRSC has deployed a total of 662 personnel, along with essential vehicles and equipment, to critical areas within the state.
According to Mr. Matthew Olonisaye, the Sector Commander of FRSC in Akwa Ibom, this deployment aims to enhance visibility on the roads and prevent road crashes. The personnel and resources allocated will facilitate prompt response to distress calls and the swift removal of any obstructions on the highways.
“To enhance the Corps’ visibility and ensure adequate and strategic deployment of personnel and material resources and to ensure free-flow of traffic for ease of doing business in Akwa Ibom State, as well as align with the Corps strategic goal of five per cent reduction in road traffic deaths and injuries,” stated Olonisaye.
The deployment includes 10 patrol vehicles, two ambulances, and one tow truck strategically positioned to cover critical areas and major routes within the state. Alongside regular operatives, Special Marshals have also been enlisted to assist in traffic control and calming measures.
Olonisaye cautioned against dangerous driving practices such as wrongful overtaking, speeding, and overloading vehicles. He reiterated the value of life, urging motorists to prioritize safety and adhere to traffic rules and regulations.
“Remember! Life has neither duplicate nor spare parts. So, we must consciously strive to protect and safeguard our lives, especially while using or sharing the roads with others,” emphasized Olonisaye.
The sector commander urged all road users to remain vigilant, obey traffic signs, and promptly report any incidents or emergencies to the FRSC.
