Fox News Questions Validity Of Trump’s Reported Rally Crowds

Fox News, a prominent conservative media outlet, has raised questions regarding the reported size of former President Donald Trump’s recent rally in New Jersey, amidst claims of potential overestimation.

During Monday’s episode of “The Five,” Fox News host Jesse Watters addressed the discrepancy between Trump’s assertion of over 100,000 attendees and reports from their own correspondent on the ground. Watters stated that the reporter dispatched to the 2024 campaign rally in Wildwood estimated there were tens of thousands fewer people present than what Trump and others have claimed.

Trump, known for overstating the size of his crowds at rallies and public events, had asserted during his appearance outside a New York courtroom for his hush money trial that “over 100,000 people” had attended the rally in Wildwood over the weekend. However, Watters countered this claim, suggesting the actual attendance was closer to 30,000 based on their reporter’s assessment.

Acknowledging the significant turnout nonetheless, Watters remarked, “That’s still a packed venue, and that’s still, I would say, 29,500 more than Joe Biden’s ever had.”

In agreement with Watters’ estimation, FoxNews.com columnist David Marcus took to social media platform X, formerly Twitter, to express his concurrence with the assessment of around 30,000 attendees.

Lisa Fagan, spokesperson for the city of Wildwood, provided her estimation to the Associated Press, suggesting a crowd size between 80,000 and 100,000 based on her observation of numerous events held in the same venue.

However, Trump’s campaign team posted a video on X from a Fox News broadcast featuring a reporter at the scene describing the rally as “one of the largest Trump rallies I’ve ever been to in the last five years or so.”

Stuart Varney, co-host of Fox Business Network’s “Varney & Co.,” also weighed in, stating on Monday that “80,000 to 100,000 people flocked” to Trump’s rally in Wildwood, interpreting it as a sign of enthusiasm for his potential White House bid in 2024.

Varney further contrasted the event with Joe Biden’s fundraising efforts, highlighting that while Trump drew crowds in New Jersey, Biden was soliciting donations from affluent donors in San Francisco.
