The Board of FirstBank of Nigeria Limited has named Ebenezer Olufowose as the new Chairman, succeeding Tunde Hassan-Odukale, whose successful 12-year tenure has come to an end.
The announcement was made by Adewale Arogundade, the Acting Company Secretary of the bank, in a notice to the Nigerian Stock Exchange on Thursday.
“FBN Holdings Plc (the Company) hereby notifies the Nigerian Exchange Limited and the investing public of the completion of the tenure of the Chairman of its flagship subsidiary – First Bank of Nigeria Limited (FirstBank), Mr. Tunde Hassan-Odukale,” the notice stated.
The decision aligns with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Corporate Governance Guidelines, which stipulate a cumulative tenure of 12 years for Non-Executive Directors.
Ebenezer Olufowose, who joined the Board of First Bank of Nigeria Limited on April 29, 2021, assumes the role of Chairman. He brings a wealth of experience from his tenure as Group Managing Director of First Ally Capital Limited, an esteemed investment banking firm headquartered in Lagos.
With an impressive track record spanning over 36 years in the financial services industry, Olufowose’s expertise encompasses Corporate Finance, Project Finance, and Investment Banking.
Prior to his appointment to the FirstBank Board, he served as an Executive Director at Access Bank Plc and Citibank Nigeria, where he spearheaded Citigroup’s corporate finance and investment banking transactions in Nigeria.
His banking journey commenced in 1985 at NAL Merchant Bank Plc (NAL), where he held roles in the Corporate Planning and Finance Departments, laying a strong foundation for his distinguished career in the sector.
