First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Wins Best Woman Of The Year At Independent Awards 2024.
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has been honoured as Best Woman of the Year at the Independent Awards 2024, dedicating the accolade to Nigerian women and youth for their contributions to national development.
Speaking at the awards gala in Lagos on Saturday, Tinubu, a former senator for Lagos Central, expressed her gratitude through her representative, Hajia Fatima Tajudeen, wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives. She described Nigerian women and youth as the country’s unsung heroes, acknowledging their relentless efforts in fostering growth and progress.
The Independent Newspaper Awards recognise outstanding achievements in politics, entertainment, business, education, and other key sectors. Tinubu expressed her deep appreciation to the organisers, stating that the award would further inspire her to contribute to national development. Q
Call for Stability in Rivers State
Meanwhile, Chief Olabode George, a prominent leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-West, urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the ongoing crisis in Rivers State before it escalates. Speaking as the event’s chairman, George stressed the state’s economic significance, warning that prolonged unrest could destabilise the nation.
He also commended Independent Newspaper for recognising Nigeria’s achievers, adding that as the government reaches its mid-term mark in May 2025, Nigerians are expecting visible improvements.
Honouring Outstanding Achievements
A total of 36 individuals, organisations, and government leaders were celebrated for their contributions to national development.
Governor Seyi Makinde was named Independent Man of the Year, while Chief Bisi Akande received the Lifetime Achievement Award 2024. Other notable winners included Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra (Governor of the Year for Urban Renewal) and Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River (Governor of the Year for Economic Transformation).
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State was recognised for his work in solid minerals development, alongside Governor Hope Uzodinma and others.
In entertainment, Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori, popularly known as Kiekie, was awarded Social Media Influencer of the Year for her impact in the industry. In the business category, Globacom Chairman Otunba Mike Adenuga was recognised, along with Charles Odi, Director-General of SMEDAN, and Professor Abayomi Fasina of FUOYE.
