FIFA suspends Spanish FA President Luis Rubiales from all football-related activities.
“The chairman of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, Jorge Ivan Palacio (Colombia), in use of the powers granted by article 51 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (FDC), has decided today to provisionally suspend Mr. Luis Rubiales from all football-related activities at national and international level,” FIFA confirmed in a statement.
“This suspension, which will be effective as of today, is for an initial period of 90 days, pending the disciplinary proceedings opened against Mr. Luis Rubiales on Thursday, August 24.”
Crisis have begun to rock Spanish football following the timeline of events since Rubiales kissed Women’s team forward Jenni Hermoso at the World Cup.
The kiss sparked controversy and criticism worldwide with a lot of persons calling for the resignation of the 46-year-old.
The Spanish government had also began legal proceedings seeking to suspend Rubiales from his post at the pinnacle of Spanish football.
However, Rubiales has apologized and also come out to say the kiss was consensual as he had asked for permission from the player.
