Newcastle failed to back up their memorable 4-1 victory when they welcomed Borussia Dortmund to a soaking-wet St. James’ Park.
Almost frustrated they hadn’t taken an early lead like they had against PSG, Newcastle fell behind on the stroke of half-time when Felix Nmecha guided a pinpoint effort beyond Nick Pope.
Dortmund drove forward in numbers when Nico Schlotterbeck of all players found himself with the ball on the left wing. He noticed Nmecha time his run on the edge of the box and pulled a pass back for Nmecha to finish neatly.
Newcastle threw everything at Dortmund in the second half and came close when they struck the woodwork on two separate occasions, but they were unable to break through.
All of a sudden, things aren’t looking so rosy for Newcastle, who drop out of the automatic qualification places in Group F, dubbed the “group of death”
