To enhance safety and visibility along theThird Mainland Bridge in Lagos, the Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, has announced plans for the installation of solar lights by June.
This was disclosed during Umahi’s routine inspection of the under deck at Iddo, Carter, and Third Mainland bridges.
Umahi disclosed that the Federal Government is committed to proactive measures to address the condition of the piles supporting the Third Mainland Bridge, which have been significantly affected by erosion and illegal mining activities. To mitigate these issues, a consultant will be engaged for the necessary repairs.
During the inspection, Umahi stated ongoing infrastructure improvement projects across various bridges in Lagos, including Eko Bridge, Marina Bridge, Liverpool Bridge, Independence Bridge, and Iganmu Bridge. These projects encompass deck renovations, CCTV installations, and observation room construction.
The minister emphasized the urgency for contractors to expedite construction work on the bridges before the lagoon tide rises in June.
Umahi also mentioned plans for similar enhancements on Carter Bridge, pending budget approval.
The initiative to install solar lights on the Third Mainland Bridge is expected to significantly enhance visibility and safety for motorists and pedestrians, particularly during nighttime hours.
