The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, has initiated a project titled ‘Project 774 LG Connectivity’ aimed at enhancing internet access across Nigeria while creating 300 direct job opportunities.
This was disclosed on X by Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, who stated the government’s efforts to foster inclusive development and expand digital infrastructure nationwide.
Aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ and the ministry’s strategic blueprint, Project 774 LG Connectivity is set to connect all 774 Local Government Areas (LGAs) to the internet. Co-anchored by the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited and Galaxy Backbone, under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, the project aims to bridge the digital divide and ensure even the most remote areas receive essential digital services.
Dr. Bosun Tijani emphasized the project’s potential to create 300 direct jobs, with the prospect of generating further employment opportunities indirectly through increased digital access.
He highlighted the importance of efficient public service delivery at the local government level, aligning the initiative with President Bola Tinubu’s mandate to enhance citizen engagement and access to government services.
This initiative follows the ministry’s unveiling of the Three Million Technical Talent programme in October 2023, which aims to bolster Nigeria’s technical talent pool to fuel the digital economy.
With a vision to create two million digital jobs by 2025, the programme, in collaboration with the National Information Technology Development Agency, seeks to cultivate a robust ecosystem of technical expertise and innovation.
The first phase of the Three Million Technical Talent programme will engage various stakeholders, including fellows, training providers, partners, and placement organizations, to cultivate a pipeline of skilled professionals equipped to drive Nigeria’s digital transformation.
