The Federal Executive Council, in its meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja, approved a budget of N5.9 billion for the development of access roads connected to the Abuja light rail system.
Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, conveyed this decision to State House correspondents, emphasising that the President has set a specific timeframe for the completion of the Abuja light rail project and underscored the significance of ensuring that the access roads to the railway station are adequately prepared.
In his words, “Today, the Council granted approval for the contract to be awarded for the construction of access roads to complement the Abuja light rail system. It is well known that President Bola Tinubu has given a directive expressing his intention to utilise the metro line.”
“Now it will not be possible if there are no access roads to commuters in communities around.”
The minister said while the FG approved three road projects in last week’s meeting, Monday’s approval concerns LOT 4 for communities around the airport and Abuja Hajj Camp.
“If you don’t create parks and access roads, it will be difficult. And so the council decided to approve this for MSSRS CCECC at a cost of N5.9bn.
“We believe that this access road being created and some car parks, we believe hopefully by next year most of us will be joining the metro line,” the minister added.
