FCTA Shuts Down Event Centre In Abuja Over Noise Pollution.
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has ordered the immediate closure of the Myra Event Centre in Guzape, Abuja, for persistent noise pollution and other environmental contraventions.
Chief Felix Obuah, Coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), issued the directive on Thursday, confirming that the event venue, located at Plot 135, Mustapha Bello Street, has been disturbing residents, particularly at night, in violation of established environmental laws.
Obuah stated that the closure forms part of a broader campaign to clamp down on noise pollution and ensure compliance with environmental regulations across the Federal Capital Territory.
“Myra Event Centre has been shut down with immediate effect and will remain closed until further notice,” he said. “This is in line with our zero-tolerance stance on environmental violations that threaten public health and community well-being.”
He cautioned operators of event centres to adhere strictly to noise limits and other relevant laws, warning that any venue found in breach would be promptly shut down.
The AMMC coordinator encouraged Abuja residents to report environmental infractions using the council’s official communication channels, underscoring the importance of public cooperation in safeguarding the city’s living standards.
“Our shared responsibility is to maintain an environment that supports the health, peace and comfort of every resident. This action sends a clear message: we will not allow disregard for public welfare to go unpunished,” Obuah added.
The move has been welcomed by environmental advocates and local residents, who have long complained about noise pollution from entertainment venues across the city.
