The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has pledged to scrutinise the recent surge in subscription fees for MultiChoice cable services in Nigeria, ensuring that consumers receive fair value for their money.
Adamu Abdullahi, the Acting CEO of FCCPC, shared updates during an interview on Channels Television’s Dateline Abuja programme. He addressed the summons issued to the proprietor of a Chinese store in Abuja, accused of engaging in discriminatory and exploitative practices.
Abdullahi also commented on the compliance status of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, indicating that the agency is poised to impose sanctions for any confirmed violations.
MultiChoice, a prominent satellite television provider in Sub-Saharan Africa, headquartered in South Africa, recently announced price hikes across its DSTV and GOtv packages. The company attributed the increases to escalating operational costs.
