The family of the late Nollywood icon, John Ikechukwu Okafor, famously known as Mr. Ibu, has disclosed June 28 as the slated burial date for the beloved actor.
The solemn event is set to take place in his hometown of Amuri, situated in the Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.
In a communiqué issued by Mr. Ibu’s family, jointly endorsed by Elder Sunday Okafor (Mr. Ibu’s elder brother) and his immediate family, the late actor was hailed for his significant contributions to the Nigerian and African entertainment industries during his lifetime.
According to Monday Diamond Ani, the Chairman of the Burial Planning Committee, the elaborate funeral arrangements aim to honour Mr. Ibu’s memory and the enduring legacy of joy and laughter he left behind. The statement extends a warm invitation to all well-wishers to join in commemorating the life of the departed star.
The ceremonial proceedings are scheduled to commence on Tuesday, June 25th, with a high-profile novelty football match. On Wednesday, June 26th, a special event dubbed “Mr. Ibu’s Night” will feature a candlelight procession and live entertainment to celebrate his life and accomplishments.
On June 27th, a Christian wake-keep will be held at Mr. Ibu’s compound in Eziokwe Amuri, Nkanu West, while the funeral service is set for June 28th. The culmination of the five-day burial ceremony will occur on Sunday, June 30th, with a church Thanksgiving service to express gratitude to family members, friends, and supporters.
