Falconets Soar Into Round Of 16 With Dominant Victory Over Venezuela.
Nigeria’s Falconets secured their place in the Round of 16 at the ongoing FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup with a commanding 4-0 victory over Venezuela in Cali on Saturday. Goals from Amina Bello, Chiamaka Okwuchukwu, Flourish Sabastine, and substitute Joy Igbokwe sealed the comprehensive win, showcasing the Falconets’ strength on the global stage.
The opening goal came in the 16th minute when Amina Bello calmly guided home a cut-back from the industrious Chiamaka Okwuchukwu, putting Nigeria ahead. Okwuchukwu then turned from provider to goalscorer in the 28th minute, rising to meet a corner kick with a powerful header that doubled Nigeria’s lead.
Okwuchukwu, who had previously found the net in Nigeria’s 1-3 loss to Germany, once again proved pivotal. In added time of the first half, she set up Flourish Sabastine with a perfectly placed cross, allowing Sabastine to convert and put the match beyond Venezuela’s reach before the break.
Substitute Joy Igbokwe put the finishing touches on a dominant display, scoring Nigeria’s fourth goal just four minutes into added time. The result, which saw Nigeria finish their group stage campaign with six points and a plus-three goal difference, comfortably propelled the Falconets into the knockout stages.
Their next test will be in Bogota on Thursday, where they will face their Round of 16 opponents as they continue their quest for World Cup glory.
