FAAN Signs MoU With Plateau Government To Upgrade Yakubu Gowon Airport.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Plateau State Government to upgrade the Yakubu Gowon Airport in Jos, a move aimed at boosting aviation and economic growth in the region. The agreement, finalised on Thursday, marks a significant step towards modernising the facility.
FAAN’s Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, hailed the partnership as a milestone during the signing ceremony in Jos. “This collaboration will transform Yakubu Gowon Airport into a modern hub, enhancing safety, passenger comfort, and capacity to handle increased traffic,” she said. The upgrade includes runway extensions, improved terminal facilities, and advanced navigation systems.
Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang expressed optimism, noting the project’s potential to drive tourism, trade, and investment. “Jos is a gateway to the Middle Belt, and a world-class airport will open up opportunities for our people and businesses,” he said. The state government has committed funds and logistical support to complement FAAN’s efforts.
Named after former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon, the airport has long needed modernisation to meet growing demand. The MoU outlines a timeline for completion, with work expected to begin soon. This initiative positions Plateau as a key player in Nigeria’s aviation sector, promising economic benefits for the region.
