Esit Eket Local Government in Akwa Ibom State has earmarked 30% of its 3% share from the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) funds for the advancement of education within the community.
This decision was announced by Mr. Bassey Dan-Abia, the representative of Esit Eket in the NNPC/MPNU JV EMOIMEE HCDT, during the inauguration of the Esit Eket Education Renaissance Committee.
Dan-Abia, a former member of the House of Representatives, emphasised the significance of investing in education to address infrastructure deficits and enhance human capital development. He highlighted that education is a priority area for Esit Eket, and they aim to allocate a minimum of 30% of their PIA funds to education initiatives, with the possibility of further investment.
The focus of the education investment includes building schools, training teachers, and offering scholarships to local youths to pursue courses in fields such as cyber security, aerospace engineering, artificial intelligence, and agriculture.
Dan-Abia emphasised the importance of preparing Esit Eket’s youth for the future and ensuring their success through education.
The inauguration of the Esit Eket Education Renaissance Committee marks a significant step towards implementing these education-focused initiatives and fostering the growth and development of the community.
