Everton Records Increased Losses of £89.1 Million for 2022-23 Season
Premier League club Everton disclosed a loss of £89.1 million ($112.5 million) for the 2022-23 season, marking a significant rise from £44.7 million ($56.4 million) in the previous campaign, according to their latest accounts report released on Sunday.
The Merseyside club faced penalties earlier in the season, including a six-point deduction, for breaching the Premier League’s financial regulations. There’s ongoing speculation about potential further repercussions for additional breaches.
Currently positioned 16th in the league standings, Everton is treading cautiously, with a slim three-point margin above the relegation zone.
In their official statement, Everton highlighted the impact of the “indefinite suspension of key commercial partnerships” as a contributing factor to their financial challenges.
ESPN reported that in 2022, Everton terminated major sponsorships with companies linked to Alisher Usmanov, a Russian metals tycoon sanctioned by the European Union following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Despite registering a £47.5 million ($60 million) profit from player transfers, the club’s net debt surged to £330.6 million ($417 million) due to substantial investments in a new stadium. The reported turnover for the period was £172.2 million ($217.5 million).
Premier League regulations permit clubs to incur a maximum loss of £105 million ($133 million) over a three-year period, with potential penalties for exceeding this threshold.
