Leandro paints perfect picture as Gunners go top
Arsenal overcame a challenging week by defeating Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 at Molineux, propelling them to the top of the Premier League table and maintaining a club record of six consecutive away clean sheets in the league.
The Gunners, seeking to bounce back after a recent Premier League loss and European exit, started the game with determination. Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka tested the Wolves’ goalkeeper early on, while Gabriel Jesus had an attempt from range that missed the target. Despite Declan Rice’s efforts from outside the box, Wolves gained confidence as the first half progressed.
Midway through the half, Joäo Gomes threatened with a powerful shot that forced a brilliant save from Arsenal’s goalkeeper David Raya, hitting the post in the process.
As halftime approached, Leandro Trossard broke the deadlock with a stunning strike into the top corner, assisted by Jesus, marking his ninth league goal and his best scoring season in the Premier League.
In the second half, Arsenal continued to press for a second goal. Havertz and Ben White had attempts on goal, while Wolves’ substitute Mario Lemina tested Raya with a shot.
As the match neared its end, Arsenal focused on defending their narrow lead, absorbing pressure from Wolves.
Despite some tense moments, Arsenal sealed the victory when Martin Ødegaard found the net at the near post, securing their sixth consecutive head-to-head victory against Wolves.
In contrast, Wolves extended their winless streak to five matches, remaining in 11th place with little left to play for this season under Gary O’Neil’s management.
