Enzo Maresca Clarifies Squad Situation and Updates on Sterling and Chilwell.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has provided clarification on the status of his squad amid reports of an overcrowded roster. Addressing concerns, Maresca emphasised that he is only working with a core group of 21 players, despite rumours suggesting he is managing 42.
“I repeat again. I am not working with 42 players. I am working with 21 players. Today’s session was with 20 players, yesterday 21. The other 15-20 are training apart. I don’t see them. It’s not a mess like it looks from outside. Absolutely not,” Maresca stated, dismissing any notion of disorganisation within the squad.
Regarding the status of Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell, Maresca acknowledged that both players are currently training separately from the main group. He noted that their situations remain unchanged but assured that they are still part of the Chelsea squad.
“They are, in this moment, training apart. The situation for both of them is quite clear. There is not any update. No [it’s not over yet] because they are Chelsea players,” Maresca added, indicating that no final decisions have been made regarding their futures.
Maresca’s comments aim to quell speculation and provide a clearer picture of the current dynamics within the Chelsea squad as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
