Emir Of Daura Endorses Tinubu For 2027 Presidential Election.
The Emir of Daura, His Royal Highness Alhaji Umar Farouk Umar, has publicly declared President Bola Tinubu as the preferred candidate of the Daura Emirate for the 2027 Nigerian presidential election. The announcement came during a condolence visit led by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to the family of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State, on Saturday, 19 July 2025. The Emir’s endorsement underscores Tinubu’s growing support in the region as he navigates his first term in office.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu, accompanied by a distinguished delegation including the wives of National Assembly leaders, governors, ministers, service chiefs, and other prominent women, visited the residence of Hajia Aisha Buhari, widow of the late President. The group offered prayers for the repose of Buhari’s soul and strength for his bereaved family. The delegation also paid respects at the former President’s graveside, where a brief prayer was held, before visiting Alhaji Mamman Daura, Buhari’s uncle and close confidant. The First Lady described Buhari as “an accomplished patriot who made his family, hometown, state, and nation proud,” commending his legacy of discipline, sacrifice, and national service.
At the Emir’s palace, Senator Tinubu extended condolences on behalf of the nation, expressing solidarity with the Daura Emirate for the loss of one of its most revered figures. In response, the Emir praised President Tinubu’s leadership and commitment to Nigeria’s progress, declaring, “President Tinubu is our choice for 2027. We remain solidly behind him and will continue to support his administration to succeed.” The monarch’s statement reflects confidence in Tinubu’s ongoing Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to drive economic and infrastructural development across the country.
The visit highlighted the deep ties between the Tinubu administration and the Daura community, with Alhaji Mamman Daura expressing gratitude for the First Lady’s gesture, describing it as a mark of respect and enduring solidarity. The Emir’s endorsement has sparked discussions across Nigeria, with posts on X echoing his sentiments and affirming Tinubu’s support base in the North. This public backing from a prominent traditional leader is seen as a significant boost for Tinubu’s political prospects as the 2027 election approaches.
President Tinubu, who assumed office in 2023, has been recognised for his efforts in fostering national unity and implementing reforms. The Emir’s declaration aligns with sentiments from groups like the South East Renewed Hope Agenda (SERHA), which recently called for support for Tinubu’s re-election, citing initiatives such as the South East Development Commission aimed at promoting regional development. As Nigeria reflects on Buhari’s legacy, the Emir’s endorsement signals a continued alliance between the Daura Emirate and Tinubu’s vision for a progressive Nigeria.
