Ivory Coast legend, Didier Drogba, has hailed his country After they beat Senegal last night
Drogba has hailed his country After 120 minutes of football action against defending Champions Senegal yesterday.
The game between Ivory Coast and Senegal ended 1:1, and it was decided with a penalty shootout afterwards which saw host Nation Cote d’Ivoire made it into the quarter finals.
Cote d’Ivoire fell to a early deficit just 4 minutes into the game when Habib Diallo, found the back of the net. Before Franck Kessie, a second-half substitute, scored late from the spot to force the game into extra time.
With the host eventually winning the resulting penalty shootout.
The Ivorian legend and former Captain Didier Drogba couldn’t hide his joy after his country overcame a disastrous group stage display to eliminate Senegal, who are the defending champions.
Thanks to former AC Milan and Barcelona midfielder Kessie who netted the winning spot kick after Moussa Niakhite missed the third spot-kick for Senegal.
“It is spoiled,” Drogba first wrote on X, formerly Twitter after Senegal’s penalty miss.
“This is what it’s all about!!!!!! Well done elephants!!! You fought like lions,” he added after the game.
Ivory Coast will now face off with the winner of the game between Mali and Burkina Faso in the quarter finals on Saturday.
