Former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, surprised many as he paid a visit to the national secretariat of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Abuja on Wednesday.
El-Rufai, a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), actively participated in the 2023 elections, which saw SDP as one of the competing parties.
El-Rufai, who was previously expected to secure a ministerial appointment in President Bola Tinubu’s government, faced a setback when he was dropped last minute due to the Senate’s failure to clear him over alleged security concerns.
Following this, he took a hiatus from politics, spending time abroad before returning to the country and maintaining a low profile.
His unexpected visit to the SDP’s national secretariat has sparked speculation, with some suggesting it could be connected to the upcoming 2027 political race.
Among those present to welcome El-Rufai was Chief Olu Agunloye, a former Power Minister who, like El-Rufai, served in the cabinet of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo.
