In an announcement on Sunday during the monthly program ‘Meet Your Governor,’ Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji disclosed that the state’s cargo airport is scheduled to commence operations by July 2024.
The governor emphasized that the airport, with its intricate certification process by relevant authorities, is poised to significantly contribute to transportation and economic development in the state.
Governor Oyebanji expressed enthusiasm about the transformative potential of the airport, stating, “The airport is going to be a game-changer in the running of our business and economy because it is the terminus for the Ekiti State Ring Road Phase One.”
He further outlined plans for the development of the corridor along which Phase One is located and the establishment of a new Ado Ekiti town in that area.
While addressing the deplorable condition of some federal roads in the state, Governor Oyebanji conveyed his optimism about their reconstruction in the 2024 Federal Government budget.
He mentioned that assurances from Federal Lawmakers have been received, and specific roads have been included in the upcoming budget.
Expressing concern about the state of federal roads, the governor stated, “Our people must get this right; we can’t construct these roads because there will be no refunds. But I have sat with our Federal Lawmakers, and they have included some of these roads in the 2024 budget. I have seen evidence that this has been done.”
Governor Oyebanji assured the public that positive changes on the federal roads would be visible in the coming months, citing the efforts and assurances of Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, the leader of the Ekiti caucus and Senate Leader. The governor’s remarks highlight the state’s commitment to infrastructure development and economic progress.
