EFCC Arrests 93 Suspected Internet Fraudsters In OOPL Complex Abeokuta.
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) conducted a dramatic raid on the Green Legacy Hotel, part of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library complex in Abeokuta, Ogun State, arresting 93 individuals suspected of internet fraud. The operation, carried out by the EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 in the early hours of Sunday, 10 August 2025, disrupted a lively pool party at the hotel, sparking chaos as guests fled amid reports of gunshots.
Eyewitnesses described a scene of panic as EFCC operatives stormed the venue, with a viral video capturing youths scattering for safety while sirens blared. Sources indicate that over 20 luxury cars and other valuable items were seized during the raid, underscoring the scale of the operation. The raid follows a similar EFCC operation just five days earlier on 5 August 2025, when the Ibadan Zonal Directorate arrested 55 suspects, including one with two locally-made pistols, at K-Hotel in Itori, Ewekoro.
An X user, A. Ayomide, shared a narrow escape, posting, “Literally left my house past midnight to go to OOPL… got there and the crowd was too much. Left around 1:30… 20 minutes later I get home and I’m getting calls that EFCC is raiding OOPL.” The Managing Director of OOPL Ventures, Vitalis Ortese, confirmed the incident but offered no further details, stating, “Yes, they did. There was an incident this morning. We will find out and we will let you know.”
The EFCC has yet to release an official statement detailing the number of arrests or specific charges, though sources suggest the operation targeted suspected cybercrime activities. This raid marks the second major EFCC action in Ogun State within a week, reflecting the agency’s intensified efforts to combat internet fraud in the region.
As investigations continue, the incident has sparked discussions about the prevalence of cybercrime and the EFCC’s proactive measures to address it. The operation at the Green Legacy Hotel highlights the agency’s commitment to tackling financial crimes, even in high-profile locations.
