Edu Gaspar Resigns As Arsenal’s Sporting Director.
As initially reported in the early hours of today by Govima Sports, Edu Gaspar has officially resigned from his role as Arsenal’s Sporting Director, marking the end of a transformative tenure with the club. The former player, celebrated as an “Invincible,” initially rejoined Arsenal as Technical Director in July 2019 before being promoted to Sporting Director in November 2022. In this role, he was responsible for overseeing the men’s, women’s, and academy football operations.
In his statement, Edu expressed that his decision to step down had been difficult. He reflected on his journey at Arsenal, saying the club had provided him with the opportunity to work with exceptional people and to contribute to a unique chapter in its history. He conveyed his gratitude to Stan and Josh Kroenke, as well as Tim Lewis and Lord Harris, for their support. Edu also noted his positive working relationship with various colleagues, especially Mikel Arteta, who he said had become a close friend.
Edu emphasised that it was now time for him to pursue a new challenge but assured fans that Arsenal would always hold a special place in his heart, extending his best wishes to the club and its supporters.
