Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has announced a groundbreaking policy during the 48th Convocation and 53rd Founders’ Day ceremony at the University of Benin (UNIBEN).
Governor Obaseki assured first-class graduates of Edo origin from any recognized university of automatic recruitment into the Edo State Civil and Public Service.
Addressing the graduates at the UNIBEN main campus in Ugbowo, Benin City, Governor Obaseki expressed admiration for the quality of governance displayed by the university’s Vice Chancellor. He commended the institution for its commitment to knowledge for service, highlighting its significant role in positioning Edo State as a leader in human capacity development.
The governor acknowledged the university’s achievement of graduating 500 Ph.D. students, emphasizing its impact despite Edo being a state with a population of about 5 million people. He extended gratitude to UNIBEN for its contributions to the state’s educational landscape.
Governor Obaseki declared, “It is now a standing policy for the Edo State Government that any student of Edo State origin graduating with a first-class degree from any recognized university gets an automatic job from the Edo State Government.”
He further assured the 179 students who may not wish to proceed immediately for further studies that they could secure an automatic job in the Edo State Civil/Public Service with just one email.
As the governor participated in the convocation ceremony, he acknowledged that it would be his last time participating as the governor of Edo State.
He concluded by expressing his appreciation for the recognition of quality Nigerians honored during the event. The announcement of automatic recruitment for first-class graduates reflects the state government’s commitment to rewarding academic excellence and promoting opportunities for its citizens.
