Former federal lawmaker, Dino Melaye, has challenged the result of the Ekiti State presidential election and wants it cancelled immediately.
Presenting his observation at the commencement of the collation of results at the International Conference Centre, Abuja on Monday, Melaye, who is the agent of the Peoples Democratic Party, raised observations on alleged over-voting.
The Kogi State-born politician argued that the results as presented by the Ekiti State Presidential Election Collation Officer, Prof. Akeem Lasisi were incorrect and should be cancelled since the National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has not declared the presidential results.
Dino Melaye said, “I have an observation from the result from Ekiti State. I worked on the results as presented yesterday and discovered we have 987, 647 registered voters and 301, 558 accredited voters. And since we have 301, 558 accredited voters in the results presented yesterday APC has 201, 494. If you subtract that 301, 558, you have 164, 000.
“Out of this 164,000, PDP scored 89,554 and if you subtract that from the balance of 164,000 what is left is 10, 510 and it was also recorded yesterday that Labour has 11, 397 when the total number left is 10,510 leaving an over figure of 887.
“Apart from this 887 surplus we’ve not calculated the results of the political parties because we recall that yesterday you told us that ADC scored 1087. So we will see that from that presentation yesterday, the figures do not add up. The number of votes outnumbers the accredited votes and we know exactly what the law says concerning that.”
Dino Melaye then moved for the result from Ekiti to be cancelled.
