Diego Maradona’s remains to be exhumed according to Children’s request.
The children of Diego Maradona filed a request with the Argentine Courts on Thursday, seeking to relocate the former football legend’s body “to a much safer place” where fans can pay tribute in a mausoleum.
Currently, Maradona’s remains rest in a private cemetery outside Buenos Aires, where he was laid to rest in November 2020 amid a massive funeral procession. Access to the cemetery is restricted to family members only.
The proposed mausoleum, named “Memorial del Diez,” is situated behind the Casa Rosada, Argentina’s executive branch headquarters, and will be accessible to the public, as stated by Veronica Ojeda, the mother of Maradona’s youngest son, in comments to local media.
In a note presented to the court and signed by Dalma and Gianinna Maradona, along with Ojeda representing Diego Maradona Jr., the heirs requested authorization for the transfer of Maradona’s remains to a more secure resting place than the current one.
The note emphasized the desire for all Argentine people and citizens worldwide to have the opportunity to pay homage to Maradona, who remains the nation’s greatest idol.
According to one of the family’s lawyers speaking to reporters, the relocation is planned around October 30, coinciding with the birth date of the 1986 World Cup winner with Argentina.
Diego Maradona, revered by fans of Napoli and the Argentine national team as the “god of football,” passed away at the age of 60 in November 2020 due to a heart attack.
