A video has surfaced featuring a young man claiming responsibility for the attack on 16 soldiers in Okwuma community, amidst a communal clash between Okuama and Okoloba in Bomadi and Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.
In the video, the man, whose identity remains undisclosed, attributes the violence to a land dispute between the two communities and criticizes government and leaders for failing to facilitate a peaceful resolution.
“This is the last video I will make over the fight between Okuama community and Okoloba community.”
“The Ijaw people from Okuama community used army to carry three people from Okoloba community and killed them. The three people were all slaughtered.
“The 16 soldiers were killed when they came to take away our community leaders and the youths knew that when they take them (the community leaders) away, they will be powerless. That was the reason the 16 soldiers were attacked.
“My father was a retired army officer who died last year. I have lost six of my people to the fight between Okuama community and Okoloba community. The Federal Government can declare me wanted after making this video,” he added.
Although GOVIMA cannot verify the authenticity of the video at this time, a community source has confirmed the man’s connection to the area in crisis.
Following the incident, three individuals have been apprehended and taken to military headquarters in Abuja, with ongoing efforts to capture additional suspects. President Bola Tinubu has pledged to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
