Deadly Flooding Hits Oklahoma As Storm Brings Heavy Rain.
A slow-moving storm brought severe flooding to Oklahoma on Wednesday, resulting in at least two deaths and shutting down roadways. The National Weather Service warned that more rain is expected in parts of Oklahoma and Texas, which could lead to further flash flooding.
In Pottawatomie County, a man was killed when his vehicle was swept off the road, and a deputy sheriff who attempted to rescue him was caught in a powerful current and had to be hospitalized. In neighboring Lincoln County, an 86-year-old woman died after her vehicle entered high water and was swept away. A 58-year-old woman who was a passenger in the car survived after being rescued by the Prague Fire Department.
The heavy rainfall, which dumped up to eight inches of rain in parts of central and southern Oklahoma, has overwhelmed the ground, leading to severe flooding. The National Weather Service forecast more rain on Thursday, with some areas expected to receive over two inches of rain. The heaviest rain is expected to fall in the evening and overnight, potentially causing further disruptions.
Residents are advised to exercise caution and stay informed about the latest weather forecast. The situation remains volatile, and authorities are working to ensure public safety.
