Court Orders Woman To Pay Boyfriend N150,000 For Breach Of Agreement.
A Magistrate Court in Ilesa, Osun State, has ruled that Rhoda Adu must pay her boyfriend, Olapitan Sola, a total of N150,000 after failing to honour a promised visit despite receiving transport fare from him.
The incident occurred when Sola transferred N3,000 to Rhoda to facilitate her journey to visit him. However, Rhoda failed to fulfil the agreement, switching off her phone and remaining unreachable.
Feeling deceived and emotionally hurt, Sola reported the matter to the Ayeso Police Station, leading to Rhoda’s subsequent arrest and appearance in court.
During the trial, Sola presented substantial evidence, including proof of the mobile money transfer and WhatsApp conversations between the two. The evidence supported his claim of a breach of agreement.
Magistrate Akogun Oludare, in her judgement, ordered Rhoda to refund the N3,000 and pay an additional N100,000 as compensation for breaching the agreement. Furthermore, she was directed to pay N50,000 as special damages for the emotional distress caused to Sola.
The court stressed that the judgement serves as a warning against similar actions, urging individuals to act honourably in their dealings with others.
