CNG-Powered Vehicle Explodes In Edo, Injuring Several People.
There was widespread panic in Benin, the capital of Edo State, on Thursday morning following the explosion of a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered vehicle at a NIPCO filling station located along the Benin-Auchi Expressway.
A video circulating on X (formerly Twitter) shows the aftermath of the explosion, with the vehicle severely damaged and people fleeing in fear as the loud blast reverberated through the area, alarming residents nearby.
Reports indicate that three individuals sustained injuries of varying severity and were quickly taken to a private hospital for medical treatment. The cause of the explosion remains unclear, but the incident has heightened concerns about the safety of converting petrol-powered vehicles to CNG, a policy recently promoted by the Federal Government to reduce transportation costs following the removal of fuel subsidies.
Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the explosion and address the growing safety concerns surrounding CNG-powered vehicles.
