The Chief Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 6 has issued summonses to two individuals, Tolulope Adeoye known as Abike Jagaban and Tolulope Odegbami known as Olowosibi, following allegations of criminal defamation brought against them by socialite Dorcas Adeyinka.
The summonses, dated May 9, 2024, were issued by Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna, mandating the defendants to appear in person before the court on June 4, 2024, to respond to the charges.
The complaint, filed by the legal team representing Dorcas Adeyinka, led by Pelumi Olajengbesi of the Abuja-based law firm Law Corridor, accuses the defendants of sharing nude photographs of Adeyinka on social media platforms, along with disparaging remarks, thereby subjecting her to contempt and ridicule.
Additionally, the complaint alleges that the defendants circulated unfounded accusations linking Adeyinka to the death of an individual named Folusho Asimiyu, without evidence.
The complainant asserts that these actions constitute criminal defamation and violate Sections 391 of the Penal Code. In Suit No CR/93/2024 with Motion No: MN/140/2024, Magistrate Iyanna has instructed that the defendants be served with the criminal summonses and subsequent court processes via their respective social media handles or pages.
The court has adjourned the matter to June 4, 2024, and has mandated the presence of both defendants on that date.
