The Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has called on President Bola Tinubu to provide clear details regarding his educational history and name changes. Obi made this request during a press conference in Abuja, emphasising the need for transparency.
“Mr. Tinubu should tell the nation his true name, the school he attended, where he served, and the certificate he obtained. He must do this task once and now,” stated Obi.
This call follows a recent United States court order requiring Chicago State University to release Tinubu’s academic records in response to a request by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar. Atiku had expressed doubts about the authenticity of the certificate submitted by Tinubu to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Obi emphasised that the controversy surrounding Tinubu’s identity has had a negative impact on Nigeria’s international image, potentially portraying Nigerians in a negative light.
“In my opinion, Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu should have saved the nation and himself this protracted embarrassment and undue anxiety. Chief Ahmed Bola Tinubu still holds the nation on the world obligation only he can discharge,” said Obi.
Obi respectfully called on Tinubu to provide a clear and comprehensive account of his background, including his name, nationality, place of birth, educational institutions attended, and details of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) if applicable. He also requested that Tinubu clarify if he ever changed his name.
