Chelsea’s Winning Streak Sparks Title Contender Debate.
Enzo Maresca has once again downplayed talk of a Premier League title challenge despite Chelsea securing their seventh consecutive win in all competitions with a 2-1 victory over Brentford on Sunday.
At the start of the season, the idea of Chelsea being genuine contenders for the title seemed implausible. However, their recent stunning form has silenced many doubters, with the Blues now sitting second in the league, just two points behind leaders Liverpool.
The possibility of Chelsea topping the table is very real. Should they defeat Everton next weekend, they would leapfrog Liverpool, who face a challenging away fixture against Tottenham later the same day.
Chelsea’s resurgence has also seen them create a comfortable gap over their closest rivals. They are four points clear of third-placed Arsenal and seven ahead of reigning champions Manchester City. Their current form includes five consecutive league wins and an impressive 10-game unbeaten run.
Despite this, Maresca remains measured. “It’s not about how many games we win. It’s about being realistic,” he said after the Brentford match. “There are things we have to do better. That’s why I said, for me, we are not ready.”
While the manager tempers expectations, Chelsea’s performances have given fans and pundits alike a reason to believe that the Blues could be serious contenders in the title race this season.
