Chelsea Appoint Championship-Winning Boss Enzo Maresca as New Manager.
Chelsea Football Club has announced the appointment of Enzo Maresca as their new head coach. The 44-year-old Italian takes over following the departure of Mauricio Pochettino and has signed a five-year contract with the club.
Maresca joins Chelsea fresh off a successful stint at Leicester City, where he guided the Foxes to promotion from the second tier by amassing 97 points to win the league. His impressive performance at Leicester made him Chelsea’s top choice, surpassing other candidates such as Brentford’s Thomas Frank, Ipswich’s Kieran McKenna, and Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi.
Despite being relatively early in his managerial career, Maresca’s achievements are noteworthy. Before his time at Leicester, he had a brief, challenging tenure at Parma in Serie B. However, his experience as part of Pep Guardiola’s staff at Manchester City and his success in managing their Elite Development Squad, where he won the Premier League 2 title in 2021, have bolstered his coaching credentials.
In addition to his managerial accomplishments, Maresca boasts an impressive playing career. He had notable spells at top clubs including Juventus, Fiorentina, and Sevilla.
Enzo Maresca while speaking with the club’s website said: “To join Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world, is a dream for any coach”.
“I look forward to working with a very talented group of players and staff to develop a team that continues the club’s tradition of success and makes our fans proud”.
Notable individuals that will work with Maresca include: former goalkeeper Willy Caballero, Danny Walker, Michele De Bernardin, Marcos Alvarez, Javi Molina and Roberto Vitiello. Ben Roberts will join the staff as goalkeeper coach and has been appointed to the role of head of global goalkeeping while Bernardo Cueva will lead the set-piece department.
Chelsea fans are eager to see how Maresca’s fresh approach and proven track record in developing young talent will shape the future of the club. His appointment signals a new era for the Blues as they look to build on their storied history and achieve further success under his leadership.
