Liverpool hero, Danny Murphy, has criticized Chelsea for overspending for midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
Murphy insisted that Chelsea’s latest signing Enzo Fernandez is not better than Manchester United’s Casemiro.
Chelsea on Tuesday made Fernandez the most expensive signing in British football after securing his signature in a £106 million deal from Benfica on transfer deadline day.
Fernandez only joined Benfica last summer but established himself as one of the most exciting footballers in the world as he helped Argentina win the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar last December.
The 22 year old was named best young player of the tournament at the just concluded 2022 FIFA World Cup In December after managing one goal and an assist in seven games for Argentina.
Chelsea are overpaying for players, I still don’t think the majority of their first XI gets anywhere near Man City’s team,” Murphy told talkSPORT.
I have watched Enzo Fernandez live and he is decent, but he is not £100 million. They have been absolutely bent over there. He is a good midfielder, he is tenacious, he is young, he gets on the ball and he is brave.
But he is not Casemiro, he is not Rodri. They are overspending on players, clubs are seeing Chelsea come and they are basically just pulling their pants down.
