Algeria’s Request for Accelerated Hearing in CAF Confederation Cup Denied by CAS
Algeria’s attempt to delay the final matches of the CAF Confederation Cup has been thwarted as the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rejected their request for an accelerated hearing.
The Algerian football federation’s plea for a speedy resolution was turned down, allowing the final matches to proceed as scheduled.
The upcoming final pits RS Berkane against Zamalek of Egypt, with the second leg scheduled for May 19 in Cairo. Despite Algeria’s efforts, the appeal process would not be completed by the time of the final match.
On April 26, CAS made the decision to deny Algeria’s urgent request, ensuring that the final matches would go ahead without interruption.
In a press release last Thursday, May 2, CAS clarified that the appeal was rejected by the president of the CAS Appeals Chamber, closing the chapter on Algeria’s bid to stall the competition.
