CAF Approves Accra Sports Stadium For AFCON 2025 Qualifier Between Ghana And Sudan.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially approved the Accra Sports Stadium for Ghana’s crucial Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifier against Sudan. The Black Stars will host Sudan on matchday three of the qualifiers on Friday, 11 October 2024, as part of the road to Morocco 2025.
This decision follows a thorough review by CAF’s independent inspectors, who assessed both the Cape Coast and Accra Sports Stadiums. In a letter addressed to Ghana Football Association’s General Secretary, Prosper Harrison Addo, CAF confirmed the approval of the Accra Sports Stadium for the upcoming match.
The letter from CAF stated: “Following a comprehensive review of the reports of the CAF independent inspection regarding the Cape Coast and Accra Sports Stadium, we are pleased to inform you that the Accra Sports Stadium has been approved to host the AFCON Qualifiers for Morocco 2025. Specifically, it will host the Group F – Matchday 3 encounter between Ghana and Sudan, which is scheduled for October 11, 2024.”
CAF has urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and stadium management to focus on improving the pitch and other key areas of the stadium in preparation for the fixture. The governing body also noted that it will continue to monitor the stadium’s readiness in the lead-up to the match and for future CAF events.
After their home clash with Sudan, the Black Stars will travel to Libya for the reverse fixture three days later, as they aim to secure qualification for the prestigious tournament in Morocco.
The match promises to be a vital one for both teams, and Ghana will hope to make the most of their home advantage as they push for a place in the 2025 AFCON tournament.
